WaveScan technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space. This technology has now been applied to laser vision correction, measuring imperfections in the eye never before measured using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses.

WaveScan Technology

WaveScan technology captures unique imperfections in each individual’s vision that could not have been measured before. This new level of measurement provides 25-times more precision than measurements using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses. WaveScan technology produces a detailed map of the eye – much like a fingerprint, no two are alike and translates this information into a set of CustomVue treatment instructions for the laser.

Visx CustomVue WaveScan is the only one using Fourier analysis of the data collected. The data collected is also more extensive. It has 5 times the data of Zyoptix.

Fourier-based wavefront algorithms:

• Fourier delivers the highest resolution available of the wavefront error
• Uses more data points to derive the optimal shape
• Uses all data from any shape of pupil
• Accurately reconstructs all peripheral data
• Captures and treats higher and lower order aberrations up to 7 mm diameter pupil

Fast and powerful, the WaveScan System delivers unprecedented measurement accuracy, enhancing the precision of the Advanced CustomVue™ procedure. Data obtained is 4 times more detailed than other wavefront analysis systems like Zyoptix.

Using AMO Fourier algorithms, WaveScan captures the unique imperfections of each patient’s eye using 100 percent of the available Hartmann-Shack data points for more accurate wavefront error reconstruction. The system provides the highest resolution available for any shape pupil (up to 7 mm), enabling precise, individualized treatment for the broadest range of visual imperfections.
